Bed cuts in DGH Psychiatric Unit (Sept)
There is to be a reduction from 122 beds at Eastbourne (and Hastings to 92) over the next 12 - 18 months and a further reduction of beds over the next 3 - 5 years. The local NHS have said that there will be increased community help but the reality is that all services are being cut and current 'community help' is at breaking point and will inevitably be further cut in the future.
Strong concerns have been expressed that there will not be any alternative help in the community and these proposals will simply be pushed through regardless.

DGH Pathology being reconfigured (Dec)
There are grave concerns from the Microbiologists about the proposals to transfer their services to a central hub away from Eastbourne DGH and the Conquest.
Meningitis, septic arthritis, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, deep abscess and acure eye infections are medical emergencies and require urgent microbiological investigation to ensure patients receive the most appropriate treatment promptly. If this 24/7 service is removed it is likely to result in serious adverse clinical incidents.Septicaemia is one such life threatening condition. And also for Public Health reasons infections like tuberculosis, norovirus, c-diff & MRSA all need a same day service.
Unless our fears are allayed we will be fighting these proposals.
