Maternity Questionnaire

We reported that the local NHS Hospital Trust are carrying out yet another Maternity Review and as before we are anxious that the Consultant-led Maternity unit at the Eastbourne DGH may be downgraded to a midwife-led care unit. We remain very unhappy at another Maternity Review as the concerns about safety of women and babies remain unchanged since September 2008 when the then Secretary of State for Health said both Eastbourne and Hastings DGH's needed to keep their Maternity (Obstetric) services. However, the local NHS have involved the Campaign Group in some of the process and a Maternity Questionnaire was offered for people to have their say.

The questionaire actuallyclosed on 26th August - we hope that you all told as many people as as possible! We noted here that we still feel it strange that the travel times issue which was probably the single most important reason that Maternity should not be downgraded at either Eastbourne or Hastings DGH's was completely missed out of the questions.

Alerts/Other News and Updates

Plan for "temporary" closure......

The Campaign Group have received some very alarming news that one of the Maternity (obstetric) units, at either Eastbourne DGH or the Conquest, is planned to temporarily close from April 2011. This has been kept very hush hush with threatened disciplinary action for whistle-blowing if the news gets out. This is despite us successfully fighting against closure in September 2008!! This smacks in the face of democracy and we will fight this closure – temporary or permanent!! Please continue to support us and do whatever you can to help. If you have any information regarding this, please feel free to contact us. We can assure you of complete anonymity. We will keep you informed.
