September 28th

A protest against the current proposals to remove emergency heart intervention treatment and possible threat AGAIN to downgrade our Maternity unit this morning saw over 200 people join us at 7.30am. An open letter (see link) was handed over to Darren Grayson Chief Executive of ESHT (the Trust that run Eastbourne DGH) and Stuart Welling who is the Chair of ESHT.

Protest 28 SeptSept 28th Protest

On the 15th September we said......

We have been told that emergency treatment (intervention) for heart attack victims is not going to be done at Eastbourne DGH with patients being taken to the Conquest in Hastings from April 2012. If you speak to anyone with medical expertise even they agree that this must remain at both hospitals. There has been no consultation on this and as far as we are aware even the local doctors are unaware!!

It is almost 5 years (to the day – 16th September) that people marched in protest at proposals to downgrade our local Maternity unit. We fought these proposals and eventually in September 2008 the Secretary of State for Health agreed with us and said the local NHS must not do this.

We remain very concerned about the Maternity Review being carried out by the Trust which runs the hospital which we think may result once again in downgrading the local unit. So now with this other threat it does beg the question what price do you put on lives!! We are extremely concerned and will fight any plans to downgrade the DGH or take away any core service it provides for the people of Eastbourne and all the surrounding towns and villages.
